On June 3, 2019, the world-renowned Norwegian international maritime exhibition will be held in Oslo and lillestrom, Norway.
As part of the Norwegian maritime show 2019, the UN Global Compact hosted a high-level meeting on oceans that brought together Oslo's leading politicians, Marine and Marine industry executives, UN representatives, ngos and other key stakeholders.
Erik Giercksky, head of sustainable oceans at the United Nations global compact, said the goal was clear."The ocean is vital to human well-being and prosperity, but it faces serious challenges," Giercksky said. "to protect and improve its health, while providing more food, more energy, more shipping and access to new raw materials, we need common principles and universal approaches.We need to work together to build effective global governance, and that, in essence, is what this conference is about."
At the maritime fair, the UN Global compact also released its latest report, Global Goals, Ocean Opportunities.The report explores a multi-stakeholder approach to understanding how the Marine industry can achieve the sustainable development goals (SDG) while achieving sustainable business growth.Set to expire in 2030, the report Outlines clear ambitions, including eliminating waste entering the Marine environment, achieving low-emission transport, providing clean, affordable energy, mapping the oceans, and building strong governance systems.
"The report and meeting are key milestones in our journey to create a sustainable Marine business reality," commented Per Martin Tanggaard, director of maritime Norway."We are committed to supporting the UN global compact to work to advance the platform for sustainable ocean operations and to achieve positive change."
